Niets brengt mij een groter genoegen dan met een anti-Apple naar een Apple-winkel gaan. De Apple-winkel is eigenlijk een heel grote iPod waarin je kunt rondlopen; het is er smetteloos wit en er draait fijne muziek. Bovendien lopen er Apple-nerds rond: de verkopers. De Apple-nerd is een bijzonder menstype; hij is een nerd, maar hij is ook cool. Zo’n Apple-nerd is bijvoorbeeld klein, dun en pastakleurig, maar tegelijkertijd zelfverzekerd en in staat om op een leuke manier over computers te praten.

Al de hele dag krijg ik vergelijkingen met noisegrootheden als Sonic Youth, Swans en Slint naar mijn hoofd geslingerd. Maar alles wat ik er aanvankelijk van kan maken is een matige band die met een LSD-slikkende frontman zit opgescheept.
Deze maand komt het grootste muziekblad van Nederland dan eindelijk met een - nogal oppervlakkige en soms zelfs tendentieuze - duiding van de ‘emo’ jeugd/subcultuur, terwijl in Mexico de eerste rellen tegen ‘emos’ uitbreken:
Following the example of the Dutch post-rock band We vs. Death, the Danish singer/producer Tone, and more recently the one-and-only Nine Inch Nails, the Dutch punk band Antillectual will release their second album Testimony (2008) under a Creative Commons license (BY-NC-SA). Although Antillectual is still pretty unknown in the Netherlands, their approach - and tour schedule - reveals a band that looks beyond boundaries. The band has already played numerous shows throughout Europe and the United States, and will release Testimony in Japan and the United States later this year.
“Het grappige is: mensen hebben heel lang geroepen dat het systeem alleen geschikt is voor kleine acts die door de gratis verspreiding van hun muziek hun naamsbekendheid vergroten. Nu zeggen ze het tegenovergestelde: je moet heel groot zijn om met zo’n actie weg te komen. Maar het album van Nine Inch Nails laat juist zien dat creative commons op elk niveau werkt.”
